Methodology

How we get it right.

Airport finance is airport-specific. That is not a reason to skip the comparison. It is the reason to do it properly. Here are the rules the whole corpus lives by.

Principle 01

Primary sources only

Every figure comes from the airport's own documents: audited financial statements, published rate schedules, signed use & lease agreements, bond official statements. Consultant estimates, third-party models, and rumor never enter the corpus. If a value cannot be traced to a document an airport itself published, it does not belong in AFID.

Principle 02

Page-cited, always

Every number stores the document and the page it was read from. Inside the terminal, clicking a figure opens that exact page, next to a link to the original file. This is not a footnote or a source list; it is a one-click path from any number back to the page it came from, so anyone can check it. Retrieval, never computation: AFID lifts what the document states and does not calculate figures the airport did not publish.

Principle 03

Comparisons that are earned

Airports price on different logic. A residual airport charges airlines the leftover cost of running the airfield; a compensatory airport charges for the space and services used. Ranking a residual landing fee against a compensatory one produces a tidy list and a false conclusion. AFID tags every airport's methodology and reporting scope, ranks only where they line up, and marks everything else as context rather than pretending it is comparable.

Principle 04

Never estimated

If a document does not disclose a figure, AFID says so and tells you why, rather than filling the gap with a model. A stated absence is information; a fabricated number is a liability. This is the discipline that lets an analyst quote AFID in a memo without adding a hedge.
